Abstract

The occurred landslips of open pit slopes have permitted to make the assumption of weak contact presence in their basis. However the results of studying
the properties of clay rocks composing a slope make
it possible to assert, that weak contact in an investigated slope is absent, and the stability of the open
pit top benches depends on physical and mechanical
properties plastic clays changing at external loading increase. Laboratory researches have permitted
to establish, that open pit slopes’ deformation takes
place because of their low bearing ability. For working out the procedure of estimation the stability of
loaded slopes combined by plastic rocks it is necessary to consider the deformation mechanism, the
form and size of the most stressed surface that are
offered to be defined by modeling physically similar
materials. The carried out researches prove, that by
external loading of clay slope, deformation occurs
practically on a horizontal plane being formed as a
result of overlying rocks and dumps pressure
