In the paper the main problematic issues of geomechanics of open-cast minings are briefly considered. The lack of alternative for the method of extreme balance at assessment of stability of career slopes is pointed out, and the need of improvement of the regulatory base on the matter. In this regard, the new theory of assessment of stability of slopes excluding a number of shortcomings of the existing ways of calculation is offered. On the basis of this theory a calculation method the slopes stability is developed, practically for conditions of any complexity: an uniform slope, a non-uniform slope, an anisotropic slope, a flooded slope, a slope on weak inclined contact, a slope on the weak inclined basis which is earned additionally and a carstified slope, a loaded slope, a slope of incoherent breeds on various bases, stability of slopes in the field of tectonic and seismic tension. It is proved that the existing ways of calculation lead to overestimate of extreme parameters of slopes, which is explained by groundlessness of situation and form (geometry) of a surface of sliding in the massif and insolvency of criteria of stability.
