Abstract

The most difficult mining and geological conditions of the Sokolov iron ore deposit have determined a high risk of breaching of watered sand and clay masses into underground workings. In a year there are up to several dozen incidents with inrush. As a
result of the breakthroughs of water from the collapse zone, there were also accidents that caused flooding of workings and stopped the mining\ with huge economic damage. It is impossible to exclude completely these breaches, but constant research
and production work aimed at reducing water cuts, preventing debacles and reducing their frequency allowed to accumulate valuable practical experience of underground mining in hazardous conditions and to work out two horizons with the collapse
of overlying rocks. We have analyzed the frequency of breaks of sandy-clay sediments in mine openings since 2003. Activities and ideas to further enhance the industrial safety of underground mining operations are proposed.
