Abstract

The paper has presented the results of scientific studies in the field of drill-and-blast works (D&B), the studies being carried out by the Institute of Mining of Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences at the Dzhetygarinskoe deposit of chrysotile asbestos. The study was aimed at improving the stability of fixed benches and minimizing the cost of D&B, and as a result two goals have been achieved. First, in the conditions of the Dzhetygarinskoe deposit, the parameters for mining the boundary blocks have been developed, ensuring the reduction of dynamic pressure from blasting on the perimeter rock mass. Secondly, the technique for measuring the velocity of seismic oscillations of the soil resulting from technological blasts has been developed and implemented, as well as the D&B technology in the setting of benches has been improved to the limiting position. The paper describes the principle for developing the special D&B technology on the limiting contour of the openpit mine, which is to study the impact of blasting on the perimeter rock mass; to establish the patterns of
flux in the mass of wave processes; determination of interaction of contour charges depending on strength characteristics of the rock mass; conducting of pilot tests of the deviated contour holes; definition of the phasing for technological blasting approach to the protected area, as well as the definition of criteria for assessing the D&B efficiency.
