Abstract

The intensive growth of mineral extraction in the Urals in the first half of the twentieth century has required in the late 50s the creation of scientific foundations and methods of designing, construction and operation of quarries of great depth and
productivity. The main factor for the successful intensive opening of deposits and their rapid commissioning was the
solution of the transport problem of quarries. Outstanding contribution to the formation of this most important branch of mining science scientists was made due the academicians N.V. Melnikov and V.V. Rzhevsky, professor M.V. Vasilyev, E.F. Sheshko, M.G. Novozhilov.
Five All-Soviet Union scientific and technical conferences on quarry transport in Sverdlovsk between 1959 and 1984 intended to solve the problems of creation and operation of transport complexes. All of them were held on the basis of the Institute of Mining as a mark of recognition of the merits of the Ural scientific school in the formation and development of the scientific direction "quarry transport".
After the breakup of the USSR and the transition to a market-based economy and after joining the Ural Branch of the RAS, Institute of Mining organized International scientific, technical and scientific conferences on quarry transport.
