Abstract

The paper considers the term “subsoil use” as a scientific direction and as a sphere or type of economic activity of modern society. It notes that the term as a type of economic activity includes not only the mineral resource complex which occupies with exploration, development and extraction of minerals from the earth's interior, but also other areas of the economy in which the earth's subsoil, as array of rocks, and its daily surface, are an integral structural element of the created objects. It emphasizes that among the main problems of subsoil use, an important role belongs to ensuring the safety and efficiency of achieving the goals, depending on the processes and phenomena occurring in the rock mass and on its surface. In accordance with this, geomechanics, studying the processes and phenomena in the rock mass, face the main problem of providing
subsoil use with the knowledge about them and solutions to ensure safe operation in the conditions of their manifestations. The paper deals with the tasks of solving the main problem and the results obtained at the present stage
