The article presents the theoretical basis for reducing the waste mass of open-cut mining in the development of deep-seated ore deposits. It establishes that the main directions of waste reduction are: internal spoil dumping, reducing of the volume of additional separation of the pit sides for accommodation of the opening working, integrated use of subsoil reserves based on their selective extraction, transportation and storage, depending on their toxicity either on the nearing surface or in the quarry
itself. We state that the most efficient scheme of internal waste dumping are based on combination of horizontal berms with inclined berms, in which the latter also perform the functions of transport sites, providing selective excavation and disposal of rock mass inside the quarry.
